- Their reporters went to Iraq on the front lines to show everyone what was really going on there.
These are just some of the amazing contributions CNN has delivered to viewers. However, everything CNN has delivered has been positive.
CNN Problems
CNN hasn’t been without its share of problems. They have been sued for allegedly slandering all Chinese people with a statement from Jack Cafferty such as, “are basically the same bunch of goons and thugs they’ve been for the last 50 years.” The network responded with there was no “intent to cause offense to the Chinese people.”
The network made a mistake in 2003 when John Zarella and Sheriff Ken Jenne demonstrate the rapid firing of a fully automatic firearm when they were covering the Assault Weapons Ban. The problem was that the ban was about semi-automatic firearms, not automatic ones. Automatic ones were restricted in the 1934 National Firearms Act.
The elections caused problems for CNN. In 2016, Bernie Sanders protested outside of the CNN office in Los Angeles. They were saying that Sanders didn’t receive as much coverage as the others running and they said that CNN meant to do that because the network wasn’t a Sanders supporter.
Many other reports state that CNN has picked and chosen what they air on their network instead of reporting the news as it is, which is what it really should be since people expect to receive all of the information that is happening in the world rather than just what CNN wants to present.
The Future of CNN
CNN was meant to be the go-to source for all news stories. Over the years, people have stated that the news channel isn’t as transparent as they say they are, and they have moved to other news channels such as Fox News and MSNBC.
CNN stands behind what they promise their viewers – unbiased news stories that people can trust and depend on when they want it.
The future or CNN is unclear. As people move over to the Internet and YouTube for news, they are more likely to start turning to CNN as they used to do, unless the news channel does something unique that will attract people back to them. Since they were the first only news channel, they may need to do something groundbreaking again to stay alive through all of the changes that are ahead.
